Displacement is often synonymous with migration and movement across borders. This is not always the case. The items in this thematic exhibition belong to vendors of the Shedia street magazine and follow the routes and paths their owners have taken, after becoming strangers in the places in which they were once local. Some of the items tell stories of travels within and across borders, and others address struggles of finding or creating a home, in the place where there used to be one.
The vendors narrated stories of objects which have given them both trouble and strength, disappointment and hope, and which have remained constants in their ever-changing life journey.
They are tools of past professions, gifts from people whom they loved and were loved by, and material representations of their inner worlds.
